Association Française de Mécanique

AFM, the French Association for Mechanics was founded in 1997 by the French Federation of Mechanical Industries (FIM) and the French Technical Center for Mechanics (CETIM) with the participation of Industries such as the French Nuclear Research Center (CEA), Usinor (the steel industry) FRAMATOME (atomic industry) Peugeot, Renault, Alstom,… in order to

Give a better image of the mechanical industry

To improve the transfer from research to industry

To coordinate the teaching of mechanics between university and industry

To increase the diffusion of technical advances

17 Learned Mechanical Societies joined AFM as founding societies; we present them here by there initials and state their activities

In the past few years some of these learned societies have been completely integrated in AFM some other are in the integration process and some are satellite societies corresponding each to a given industrial sector.

Several industrial partners joined also SFM in order to increase its efficiency.

In year 2002 AFM has approximately 2000 direct members and some 5000 other members of the associated societies are also linked to AFM.

Its annual budget is of the order of 150.000 US $

AFM's office is held by the federation of Mechanical Industries (FIM)
