THE PHILIPPINE SOCIETY OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERS

 

The Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers (PSME) was founded in l952 with the objective of uniting and enjoining mechanical engineers in the pursuit of further professional growth and in the upliftment of the profession, in general.

 

The contributions of the Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers (PSME) to the continued growth of the mechanical engineering profession and technological advancement in the country have made lasting marks as could be glanced from the recognition accorded by both the public and private sectors. PSME has indeed succeeded in living up to its role of upgrading and improving the knowledge of mechanical engineers in the country with its direct assistance in providing solutions to the problems related to the practice of the profession and by continuously educating the members through the conduct of regular plant tours, seminars , and the annual technical paper presentations and invention contests, among others.

 

PSME has 82 chapters nationwide and 2 chapters based at the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia with a total membership of 35,000 fellow, life and associate members. In addition, it has junior units in many schools throughout the country.

PRINCIPLES AND OBJECTIVES OF THE SOCIETY

 

·        The Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers subscribes and commits itself to uphold the Laws of the Republic of the Philippines, promote the PSME Creed and the objectives set forth in its Amended Articles of Incorporation and By-Laws

·        The PSME shall be governed by the Corporation Code of the Philippines as prescribed by Section 1.2 of the Amended By-Laws.

·        The Society endeavors to unite all practitioners for the exclusive purpose of advancing the arts and science of mechanical engineering, the allied arts and science and related human factors for the benefit of the general public as defined in the Articles of Incorporation.

·        The Society shall provide a venue for its members to participate and contribute in the social, economic and industrial growth of the country.

 

 

 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE SOCIETY

 

To achieve the purposes and objectives of the PSME, the Society, among others, shall:

 

·        Provide proper guidance and direction to all its chapters

·        Coordinate the activities of all chapters

·        Promote chapter development and sound chapter management

·        Promote organization of new chapters in places where there are none.

·        Hold an annual convention where delegates adopt resolutions to determine the activities for the future and elect a new set of members of the Board of Directors for the next year.

·        Hold regional conferences among the chapters within a region where delegates adopt policies and activities for their particular region as well as adopt resolutions for presentation in the annual convention, National Board and/or proper government authorities.

·        Take necessary actions on approved resolutions during annual conventions

·        Promote inter-chapter visitations and cooperation

·        Conduct training and development courses for officers and members

·        Get involved in the upgrading of the curriculum for mechanical engineering course

·        Present and/or take actions on the declared views of members with the proper authorities when so directed by members

·        Recognize outstanding achievements of its members and chapters

·        Support and provide assistance to the proper authorities in the implementation of the Mechanical Engineering Law

·        Affiliate with allied organizations, locally and internationally, to promote the exchange of technical information in the spirit of cooperation and mutual development

 

MEMBERSHIP

GRADES OF MEMBERSHIP:

 

·        Honorary Member - Any notable person of pre-eminent professional distinction or any person who has rendered unqualified services and/or supports to the Society.

·        Fellow – A regular member who has been conferred the Fellow Award of the Society. An active regular member of acknowledged eminence in the mechanical engineering profession and has rendered outstanding eminent service to the profession, Society, Community and Country. A regular member who has attained distinction in the arts relating to the teaching of major courses in said arts and sciences.

·        Life Member – A regular member who has paid the required one time fee of Three Thousand Pesos (Ph 3,000.00), or such amount as may be prescribed by the National Board of Directors which shall not be adjusted more than once a year.. The Life Membership can be extended to an Associate Member, provided they cannot vote and hold elective office.

·        Regular Member – At least a registered Mechanical Engineer or a Certified Plant Mechanic with BSME degree.

·        Associate Member – A graduate of mechanical engineering from an accredited engineering school or a Certified Plant Mechanic without a BSME degree.

·        Student Member – Any person who is at least a third (3rd) year student in mechanical engineering in an accredited school.

·        Institutional Member – An institution, such as school, supplier, manufacturer, engineering firm, consulting firm, contractor, etc., whether it be a single proprietorship, partnership or corporation, which, in the opinion of the Board of Directors of the Society, could help in the attainment of the Society's objectives.

FINANCE AND LOGISTICS

 

SOURCES OF FUNDS AND LOGISTICS

 

The Finances of the Society shall consist of entrance fees, donations, contributions, special assessments, which the general membership of the Board of Directors may prescribe from time to time, and income generated as an incident to its operation.

 

MEETINGS, CONFERENCES AND CONVENTIONS

 

SEMI-ANNUAL CONVENTIONS - a Semi-Annual General Meeting of the Society which shall be held in the months of May and shall be alternately held in the Regions of NCR, Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, and which shall be bidded by the Chapters in each Region for hosting, subject to the guidelines in the Policy Manual.

 

NATIONAL CONVENTION - An annual general membership meeting of the Society to be held in the month of October in Manila on a date to be decided upon by the National Board of Directors.

 

MECHANICAL ENGINEERING CONGRESS - held every June of the year which coincides with the Professional Regulation Week.

 

ASSEMBLY OF CHAPTER PRESIDENTS, OFFICERS AND DIRECTORS AND REGIONAL GOVERNORS - held every first month of the year. Serve as the venue for theplanning session of the newly elected Officers and Directors.

PSME OFFICE AND SECRETARIAT

 

SUPERVISION AND CONTROL

 

The supervision and control of the entire secretariat staff shall be solely under the President, provided that in his absence, the Executive Vice-President will take over. The immediate office supervisor of the staff is the Executive Director.

 

The Society is composed of the following personnel: Executive Director; Membership Secretary; Bookkeeper, Publication Secretary, Clerk, Utilityman, Messenger and Collector.
