Dear Mr. Fabri:

Thank you for your announcement on the next ICOMES Meeting in Paris. On
forwarding your message to our President-elect, Dr. Yoshimi Ito, he
asked me about the length of the short report on the education for
mechanical engineers. Will you please advise me of the expected length.

>From now on, you must be busy to make the preparation for the meeting.
In retrospect, it was six years ago when I first met you at the 4th
ICOMES Meeting held in Tokyo. It was really pleasant to prepare the
meeting for the world leaders of mechanical engineering. Now it is your
turn to greet them with pleasure after long association with the
delegates of many countries. Hoping your meeting every success.

Dear M Fabri

I am the elected chairman of the Mechanical College Board of the Institution of Engineers, Australia. I recently took over the chair from Professor Michael Davis, who attended the ICOMES Forum in Shanghai in 2000.

I am communicating with you simply to advise that I will attend ICOMES this year in Paris, representing the Institution of Engineers, Australia. I look forward to meeting you in October.

Perhaps I should note that I am a practising consulting engineer working in mining and minerals processing in Western Australia. I am not a lecturer or professor, so I know very little about the problems of those who educate engineers. I do know more about the issues facing engineers after they graduate. I hope I will be able to contribute to ICOMES from this point of view.

Professor Davis and I are developing some ideas for this meeting of ICOMES. I will pass our suggestions to you in due course, as you requested on the ICOMES website.

Best regards

Peter Hopwood
